cheated

hot. tired. irritable. cheated out of lovely fall weather by a nasty, relentless, shine-you-out-of-your-foxhole, go-stick-yer-face-in-the-freezer and watch-too-much-tv sunshine. that's how most of today went. every precious autumn day in which i have to turn on my air conditioner is cause for bitter complaint. heat in october makes me want to throw up a little bit.

i did have my small consolations:

:: by my count, 10 new buds on the lemon tree
:: halloween cookies

:: air conditioning
:: Little in shades (top picture shows her preferred costume for watching snoopy in "it's the great pumpkin, charlie brown")

OH, ALSO, stupid vons (grocery store) is totally on my list for always being fresh out of whatever i ran there to get--with Little in tow, of course, who hates to be in the grocery store unless there is a lollipop in her mouth, and sometimes even then. i wouldn't even go to vons if it wasn't within walking distance. not that i ever walk there when it's hot. err! ERR!

Having endured two brutal winters in LA, I soooo know what you mean.

I needs me my cold.

Your cookies look fantastic. And of course Charlie Brown looks better through tinted lenses.
Sorry about your fresh-out Vons. In DC, we called the grocery store near my work the Soviet Safeway because the shelves were always bare. Sounds like a similar situation in Pasadena.

We were just being made fun of for loving the rare rainy day we got a few days ago. Brian just asked me today where I wanted to live, and I said anywhere where they have a true fall season, with the changing leaves, the rain, the sunny days but still needing a jacket...mmm, I love it!
Love the sun glasses. We just got Lyza some the other day and she always wants to wear them. Too cute.

I couldn't agree more with your post. Maybe you guys should move to Utah. We have a fabulous fall! Was that mean? I was just trying to convince you to move here.

agh I know how you feel. I am so tired of the constant hot sticky weather. I'm ready to pack and head to nashville to enjoy the cool nights (40s) and the days (80s)...it really doesn't feel like october!

I agree, you should totally move to utah!!! I am not afraid to be mean about it either!! The nights have been very nice around here lately. Cool enough to cool your bedroom at night, but then you end up getting up to close them cause your too cold.
Hey, also, I was just considering doing a post about asking anyone if they know how to find any one of the charlie brown halloween movies, and you mentioned little watching one. I imagine you can just find it online? Am I right? We were just thinking about showing on of those at a halloween activity day for primary. I said I would check into finding out where we could get that. We just have about an hour or less time frame, so we thought one of those would be perfect. Any ideas for me?

Oh, my. Does your hot weather ever bring back memories! I can remember the "winter" in L.A. when I was 8 months pregnant with Annie. The planets were finally aligned: I had painstakingly saved a few bucks to use for Christas shopping, managed to have Fred home and able to babysit Alex at the same time AND have the car (un-airconditioned) all available to me at the same time--but with only about a 1-hour window to make it all happen. When the usual 10-minute drive to the mall turned into a 25-minute drive, I still held onto a naive hope that I could pull it off. Then I entered the parking lot and saw how crowded it was. Undaunted, I tried for twenty-five minutes to find a parking space that never materialized, so, if you're doin' the math, you know that that only left me 10 minutes to shop and get back home before babysitter (aka co-parenter) Fred had to leave. Did I mention that all this took place during a record heat wave IN DECEMBER? Sweaty and sticking to the car seat I just packed it in and went home. Yeah, I was a little cranky after that.

That would be "Christmas" shopping.
